EF - DIgipak Idea 1

After sitting down and talking to our media teacher. We have come up with a rough idea for our Digipak, however we have not yet put this idea together on photoshop or anything to see if this works just yet.

So there is a relationship between the front and the back of our Digipak we are thinking of have a picture of all the band maybe standing on the Moors or maybe sat on some rocks we haven't yet decided. Then for the back cover maybe have the same image but this time from the back, so they have their backs facing us. We got this idea from a Linkin Park Digipak for "Minuets To Midnight".

We also liked the idea of having them looking in the water and then maybe because it has been almost 10 years since our band N'Sync split have them looking in the water wearing clothes maybe they wore in the late 90's when they were popular
and then on the back have them looking in the water wearing clothes they would wear now, showing the time passing and the new generation of N'sync.

As there has already been a N'sync Greatest Hits we are looking at naming our Digipak maybe something along the lines of N'sync 'The Hits' or N'sync 'Best Of' and then just include the songs which were made hits.
We are thinking about having a pull out of a lyric sheet maybe, or a pull out sheet of information on the band maybe where they are today. Or a sheet with picture from behind the scenes or something along those lines.

For the inside panels of the Digipak we are thinking of having something that links to the narrative so maybe the grave yard location and then super impose the band members into the shot, or different flashback scenes cropped and then merged together.
Below is an example of a superimposed image on a Digipak :

We are not yet decided whether we would like a 2 panel digipak :

Or we may be using 3 Panel Digipak we have not yet decided :

EF - N'sync Gone - Track Original Video

'Gone' was released in 2002 it focuses around the lead Justin Timberlake and what appears to be his ex girlfriend, the video is shot in black and white and is shot in an empty apartment with flashbacks throughout of his ex girlfriend who is 'Gone' and then cuts back to him alone.

The other group members are included in  scenes such as a birthday party whilst at the same time cuts between the bands video for 'girlfriend' which featured Nelly.

For the flashback scenes Ritts the video director hired a 17 year old Croatian girl named Corrina  she had no problem with the flashback scenes but for the opening part to the video where we see a some what more comical take on something from maybe the 1970's, Ritt's hired a physical comedy director to teach her how to communicate with facial expressions.

Ritts did not manipulate a single frame during post-production however he did different cameras, speeds and films to create different looks and effects. For example during the intimate scenes with Timberlake and Corrina, Ritts used a small handheld camera Ritts said he did this so " you really caught those intimate moments"

'NSYNC's "Gone" has none of the fancy special effects or postproduction gloss of the other nominees for Video of the Year at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards. The black and white clip is an exercise in simplicity, beautiful for its natural imagery and intimate moments.Originally, "Gone" was not going to be so simple. Jive Records wanted to do a period piece with Justin Timberlake, the main voice behind the tender ballad, playing Charlie Chaplin. - Source MTV Website - The Story Behind Video

Ef - Filming and Schedule Update

After editing most of our footage which we filmed last week, we both realised that the narrative was becoming too repetitive and we lacked a various amount of performance, which meant our video didn't really make much sense when putting in the performance. We also noticed that some of the shots were dark and you could hardly see the lip syncing for the performance part or the boy bands faces.

For these reasons we are going to film more performance on Friday during the day around 12 hopefully then it should be light enough and are shots will not be affected. We are then going to hopefully film our last part to the narrative and more narrative shots next week either Tuesday or Wednesday due to me and Mel and several cast members having exams.

Filming Update

After our disruptions of filming in the Christmas holidays we drew up a new plan for filming.

Last Friday we filmed what we hopefully want to be our performance footage for our music video, to do this we filmed in several outside locations including The Swing Bridge, The IlkleyMoors and around Ilkley Tarn. We used four boy member for our boy band who were JamesCrowther, Jack Hanson, Temour  Ahmed and Mathew Frost.

Yesterday we then filmed some of our narrative for the music video, which we based around a couple and his life without her after she has gone. We are hoping to show this part through various flashbacks.
However we had to film with two cameras a HD one and a Normal Camera as we filmed our performance with a normal camera due to their being no HD ones around, we had to film with both just in case there was a massive difference, this way we still have the footage and we can avoid re-shoots if there did appear to be a massive difference.
Even though we have filmed most of our narrative we still have at least two more scenes to film for this part which involves our last scene.

EF - N'sync - Artist Profile from 2002 to Present

N'sync were an American boy band formed in 1995, they have had hits such as Bye Bye Bye, Gone, It's Gonna Be Me, Pop and a collaboration with American rapper Nelly. Since splitting in 2002, the band members have gone their separate ways and have had many successes since then.

Justin Timberlake

In November 2002 Justin released his first solo album Justified which went on to sell more than 7 million copies world wide. The album featured hits such as "Cry Me A River" and "Rock Your Body".
In 2006 Timberlake went on to release his second album  Future Sex/Love Sounds, which featured songs such as "Sexy Back", "What Goes Around.. Comes Around" and "My Love". His first two albums went on to make him the most commercially successful singers in the world, with each of them selling over 7million copies.

Justin has also recently appeared in many hit films such as "The Social Network" , 'Bad Teacher" and "Friends With Benefits". He then went on to win six Grammy Awards and four Emmy Awards.
In 2004 Justin caused controversy at the Super Bowl whilst performing with Janet Jackson, in front of an audience of over 140 million. At the end of the performance, Timberlake tore off a part of Jackson's leather costume, which resulted in Janet's breast being briefly exposed. Both Janet and Justin were made to apologise publicly for the exposure otherwise they would of been excluded from the 2004 Grammy Awards, Timberlake appeared and made a public and written apology.
After the Super Bowl, Timberlake put his solo career on hold to star in several films. In 2006 Justin starred in the film Alpha Dog which is a crime drama based n real life events which happened in 2000, about gangs, drugs, kidnapping and murder. After this Timberlake appeared in films such as Black Snake Moan, and was the voice for Prince Artie Pendragon in Shrek The Third in 2007.

Timberlake since the bands split has also taken part in many singing collaborations such as 'The Black Eyed Peas for their song "My Style" which was taken from their album 'Monkey Business and 'Signs' by Snoop Dog in 2006. Shortly after filming the video for 'Signs' Timberlake discovered a throat condition, and was advised not to sing for a few months, shortly after his operation he began his own record company JayTee Record which was then renamed to Tennman Records in May 2007, Esmee Denters was the first singer to be signed to this label.
In 2007 Justin made an appearance in 50 Cent's song Ayo Technology. In 2008 Timberlake collaborated with Madonna for her song 4 Minuets. In 2009 he collaborated in a song with TI called "Dead And Gone" for TI's album Paper Trail and then in later 2009 collaborated with Ciara for her song "Love Sex and Magic".

On October 7, RCA Music Group announced it was disbanding Jive Records along with Arista Records and J Records. With the shutdown, Timberlake (and all other artists previously signed to these three labels) will release his future material on the RCA Records brand.[66][67] In 2011, he starred alongside Cameron Diaz in Bad Teacher and then alongside Mila Kunis in Friends with Benefits, and played Will Salas, the protagonist of In Time, a science fiction film by Andrew Niccol.[64] He directed and made a cameo in the Free Sol music video "Hoodies On, Hats Low" which was released in August 2011.[65] From 2010, Timberlake increased his acting work. He played Sean Parker, the founder of Napster, in the acclaimed film The Social Network (2010). He also appeared at the 2010 MTV VMAs on Sept. 12, 2010.[63] - Wiki Source

Jc Chasez

Born Joshua Chasez since the split in 2002, JC released his first solo single called " Blowin Me Up With Her Love". In 2004 he released his debut album "Schizophrenic" by Jive Records which included contributions by artists Basement Jacks.

In 2007 JC parted ways with Jive Records, this then resulted in the delay of the release for his second album "The Story Of Kate", however two of the songs from the album "Until Yesterday" and "You Ruined Me" were released online and received positive reviews from fans. From 2007 onwards Chasez continues to work as a song-writer and producer, writing songs for the likes of David Archuleta and The Backstreet Boys
In November 2010, Chasez wrote the song "If You C Kate" for British Band 'Mcfly' which will be featured on their upcoming album 'Above The Noise'. Currently JC is working as a judge on Americas Best Dance Crew which is shown on MTV. A recent news report for the beginning of 2012 included JC Chasez  saving the life of a 1 year old baby on a beach in Miami on New Years Day .

Lance Bass

Since N'sync split in 2002 Bass began to work in film and television, following his success of N'sync. In 2001 Lance received his first starring role in the film "On The Line" the film was produced by Bass's production company A Happy Place which was later renamed as Bacon and Eggs. However the film was a commercial failure despite all the fan base surrounding N'sync grossing on $4.2 Million despite its $10 Million US budget and was received poorly by critics. Shortly before this role he had a guest appearance in the WB drama 7th Heaven in which he played a love interest for one of the characters Lucy played by Beverley Mitchell .

After 'On The Line' Bass appeared in "Zoolander" in 2001, Wes Craven's "Cursed" in 2005 and played a wedding singer in "I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry"  in 2007. Bass has also lent his voice to many animated shows such as 'Handy Manny' 'Kim Possible' and 'Higglytown Heros'. In August 2007 Bass took part in Hairspray the musical fro six months playing corny collins. He was recently a contestant on Dancing With The Stars season 7.
In July 2006 Bass came out as Homosexual in a cover story for people magazine, he was awarded the Human Rights Campaign  Visibility Award in October 2006 and released an autobiography in 2007. More recently Lance in October 2011 debuted his own boy band called Heart2Heart.

Chris Kirkpatrick

Since splitting from N'sync Kirkpatrick hasn't really done much compared to the other members of the group. He is an American singer, dancer and entertainer and voice actor. He is best known for N'sync however he has recently provided the voice for many children's shows such as "Fairly Odd Parents" for Chip Skylark, he also appeared in The Simpsons as himself being a guest star along with his fellow ex N'sync members on the episode " New Kids On The Beech".

In April 2008 it was announced Chris would be part of the second season of CMT'S show 'Gone Country' and 'Gone Country 2'.

Joey Fatone

Fatone is best known for being part of the band N'sync. Since the split Joey has taken place in season 4 of Dancing With Stars in 2007 in which he came 2nd place. He has also been the host of American and Australian versions of The Singing Bee. In 2002 Fatone played Mark Cohen in the stage version of "Rent", then in 2004 he played the role of Seymour Krelborn in the stage version of "Little Shop Of Horrors" and then more recently in 2010 played the role Franz Liebkind in the stage version of "The Producers".

Ef - Animatic Audience Feedback

After screening our animatic to the class we were given some important feedback in order to help us improve our idea and filming schedule.

  • For our first scene of our lead boy in his bed with a black and white effect, we were given the idea to change this scene and instead have a variety of shots of him in the bed and then cut to one without her, to signify his memories more.
  • We were then told that when the Lead boy is getting changed to have him going through his draws and find some of the girls clothes.
  • We could also have scenes of just hand holding where the we have a shot of the girl holding his hand.
  • We could also instead of using the black and white effect use fade in's to bring the girl into the equation.
  • When trying on the clothes in one flashback, we could use an item of clothing to start the scene before the flashback. We then have the lead boy find the item of clothing for example a t-shirt , we then fade the the flashback, of the girl trying this item of clothing on.
  • For the performance we have been told to try use a more variety of location, maybe a park, moors, the tarn around the moors etc.
  • Try not to use the house for all the narrative as it may become boring, maybe do it as though we are following his day.
  • Cut more between performance and narrative.
  • For the graveyard scene we could have the camera far away from graveyard and then have the boy walking into the shot. Then either fade out or pan up.
  • Also we could leave our ending polysemic, and not use an invite to a funeral.
  • We could have some behind the scene footage for some more boyband shows, or just the boys messing around.
  • Record more lipsyncing of some lines in same location for more shots to try avoid re-shoots.

Animatic

An animatic is a moving storyboard or an animated video storyboard, with shot by shot sequences of what we what our music video to look like. We drew the storyboard, and included the timings of the shot and a note form description of what the audience should expect to see happening in this certain shot.
In the past, animatics have benn most commonly used for a host of production and marketing-related applications, such as commercials, sales pitches, special effects previews, bumpers, market testing, promos, show opens. However, with the real-time availability of production animatics, we're using them in features, TV series and commercial production work as well. - Source - Storyboards-east
We then recorded ourselves for the voice over explaining each shot vocally in more depth and detail, to do this we used a voice recorder provided by school. After completing this we then scanned in our storyboard and put the shots into order on final cut, where we then edited our animatic and included our track in the background.
